John that is a 1965 vintage first year of 450 crawlers the motor is a 4-202 if diesel or a 4-180 gaser both were in 450s of that age The water pump can be rebuilt by the local Deere Ag dealer just tell him what motor you have the belt and throttle cable should retro across to Ag as well those old 450s used a lot of Ag tractor parts .good luck .Digitup.

thanx for the help on the 450. i could not find a tag with model number, just the type of T5F3M.
yes, it is diesel - so why the motor type of 4-202? how would i be able to know that - is there a number on it? the only thing i found on the engine was R72972 and R72973

also, i need a roller - think it may be called idler, for the track - the one in the midle tfor the top part of the track. any ideas on where to find this?
thanx again
johnny

You are looking for a TOP ROLLER should be easy to find ! Pull the three or four front bolts. Then lift track over guide ridge and pull off the iner bolts and it will come right off ,Check the seals, plain berring and shaft You get a shaft with a new one .But if your shaft is in good shape just use it .As they are a pain to change and old is as good as new I find that your local JD industrial dealer will have a very compedative price on under carrage parts.Your engine is a 4-202 as Deere calls it. A 4 cylender and 202 cubic inch 57 hp unless it has had something else shoved in it.That is stock build engine of the day.Check all your rollers top and bottom make sure they all roll nicely park your crawler level and lift the front up several inches to clear the track rollers and check them [Dont get your fingers in a pinch spot ]roll by pushing on flat edge of roller only if they dont move this way lubricate them or put a greese fitting on them and I notice in this forum they use cornhead greese If they dont work free then replace them The top one can also be lubed this way Always watch for leeking seals as rollers can run dry My new 450J had a seal go at 300 hours this summer They dont run dry long If lube is gone .Digitup.

thanx digitup !
on my way to a JD AG dealer - going to try to ge the throlle cable and either a reman water pump or a kit.
will try to get all filters - and make sure all fluids are full.
it was running fine without the top roller - but will still try to locate one.
i'll send a note when i get the water pmup (hope they have a reman).
i am still confused about model numbers - and how they track back to the TYPE o the ID card.
i have seen posts about 450s where the ser number and years are listed.
your reply was the only one i got - where you indicated a 1965 model year.
thanx,
johnny

hello again -
motor ?
replies said i have a motor 4-202
i found 2 casting numbers - R72972 and R72973
also - there was a plate on the side of the engine
type was M53TF
ser # 162468T

does this match the fact that i think i have a 1965 machine?
thanx,
johnny

Some where on that engine it should read 4-202 The M53TF is a line build number The 162468T is a serial number that indicates 1965 build .In that age and later Deere seldom cast in part numbers on parts nor did they cast in engine modle numbers .This info is on a small plate on left side of block I think that the cast in # is more likely a sand cast # for casting referance .Digitup.
