Front Crossbar Bolts

Post by stevenx40 » Fri Sep 18, 2015 6:23 am

I need to replace the bushings that I believe were once installed , hard to imagine all 8 are gone from both sides. Looking for some suggestions on best practice to try and get these bolts out. Attached is a pic Thanks Steve https://www.flickr.com/photos/136413508 ... hotostream

Yes all the bushings are wore out, the holes go thru you can apply penetrating oil from the bottom. I would also lift the crossbar to make a gap where you can apply heat to the threaded area under it and then work with a very good impact. It's going to take awhile, you do not want to break those bolts. Once you get the bolts out, replace them with new grade 8 bolts and over sized washers. Remove the "bushing movement" and be done with it.

There are several posts on it, some people even weld them solid. I did not do that.
