450c steering adjustment

Finally got the service manual on the 450. It shows to adjust the left steering I need to screw the adjusting knob in till the self adjuster will catch and have 6" of pull on the lever.
But the problem is it does not say how to get to the adjuster, the best way I can see is to take the top of the housing off and do it that way, is that right?

The right lever has about 10" of pull but brakes good, the left will work as long as it is done gently and do not pull hard on the brake, if I do it will kick both out and the dozer stops then if I pull on the right and release it it will start to move.

Anyone know if I am going the right way.
