450BC

Post by Willie B » Tue Dec 15, 2015 7:10 am

I will truck my first ever crawler this Sunday. It's a 450BC. I want manuals. Is there difference between 450B, and 450BC. Does the C only denote that it isn't a loader? Someone wondered if it's a transition model between B & C It is supposed to be a '73 so I doubt it's a transition. I haven't paid for it yet, should I back out, or forge ahead? Tracks, and undercarriage are very good, it's weld free, no leaks, the blade is shiny with no gouges from boulders. I operated it a bit. The seller had 1/2 acre newly graded, but somehow had managed to bury a million rocks football size. I didn't want to make a big mess so didn't dig. It seems dry, and tight. I'll know more when I've got it home and go through the fluids and filters.

Do you have the serial number? There is a guide here: http://www.jdcrawlers.com/messageboard/ ... php?t=2415 that will help you cross reference the machine to the correct year.
JD- 450C track loader
Serial #208336T

Hi,

At some point during the B production, they added a second letter to denote what attachment came on from the factory. A + B were loaders, C, D + E were dozers, J was drawbar only and W was Wide Track.

Now, just which loader or dozer model went with each letter, I do not know.

Thank you. I wondered if the manual I might buy wouldn't apply, as my Case 580K is a totally different tractor from a 580CK.

It looks to me that along with technology changes, these tractors grew with each new letter.

Hi,

Yes. Each letter in the JD series denoted significant changes. For these older ones, the biggest change came between B and C.
