350 carrier bearing

Post by Mxzfx4 » Wed Feb 17, 2016 8:08 pm

Working on replacing 350b final drive clutches. Took the final off and found final full of mud. Took the throw out bearing off and noticed the carrier bearing frozen on the sleeve. Sleeve is pitted. Plan on replacing the sleeve and carrier bearing. Question is do I slide the new sleeve in or do I need to pull the steering clutch housing off and replace the bearings on the inside of the case between the transmission housing? Thanks in advance

Go to the JD parts book, jdpc.deere.com/jdpc/servlet/com.deere.u90490, enter model "350B", click on "exact model", and then click on "find". Find your schematic and it will also give you the names of the parts, housings, etc. so we can tell what you need.

So the carrier bearing part # 2 is seized on the sleeve part #3. Got both pieces out but didn't know if I could slide the new sleeve back in or I have to replace the bearings and seals on the inside of the steering clutch housing?

Never worked on a 350, but I understand what I'm seeing. I don't see why you would have to change the bearing and seal. I don't believe the sealing is done on that sleeve anyway. Your seal is installed on the quill (#4) and then the sealing surface rides on the ring gear and that's where the seal is made.
I don't understand the point of the sleeve.
Those are great pictures. Helps me to see why our 1010 might not be steering on one side.

I don't understand the point of the sleeve.
The sleeve is what the throw out bearing rides on....

The sleeve should be able to be driven in with a 2# hammer and a block of wood with the quill in place .....BUT with all the water/mud that has been in there you might want to think about what has happened to the seal ...If it starts to leak after you put it all back together all your work and money spent will be for not ... I think i would pull the quill and put a new seal in it

Looks awfully dry and dirty inside. I would pull the quill, too, as well as the trx cover and look inside.

Wanted to add that the carrier bearing looks like it would clean up and reuse-able ( I'M sure DEERE is in love with them and dont give them away).... As for reusing the sleeve not so much ....... one good thing or drawback when you go farther in there you will find more things that need repair

Hi,

Another thing....if that seal winds up leaking, you will likely be buying another set of fibers when you tear it down a second time....

Thanks for the replies. So I have another question. Lots of rust on the inner clutch drum gear. Was thinking about sandblasting. Is there any thing I can coat the metal with to prevent rusting? I know hydrocarbons will contaminate the fibers didn't know if there's something I can put on?
