How to check filters

Post by slwbid » Sat Mar 19, 2016 6:29 am

I want to do a post mortem on some CA is terrible filters from my 450.
What is best way to get filter out of metal can? I know I could use saws all, but that would get metal in the filter and foul up my post mortem.
Thanks

I would use the saw and then do the research below that line of debris. I have used a body panel cutter on an air gun before. I've also just used a hammer and chisel. Tin snips might work if you can gate a hole cut in the canister first.

They actually make a tool to do this.
A quick internet search shows lots of different tools available, from Amazon, Ebay, Summit....etc... most resemble a large tubing cutter.
Perhaps one of the repair shops in your area has one and would do it for you.
Much as I love buying tools, I wouldn't buy one.....Leonard's method has worked fine for me for years.

My method is to score it with a hacksaw, just keep going around and cutting deeper on each pass, then when it breaks through just use a large screwdriver and pry the end off. Only takes 3 minutes or so.

Hi,

I have the large 'pipe cutter' tool. Very important to have one when racing....
