350c stopped running
350c stopped running
While doing some work with the 350c the engine shut down. I checked the fuel solenoid thats good has a good fuel flow coming from the tank. I pulled the fuel line going into the ip good flow while cranking but did not check with pressure gauge. I cracked the lines at the injectors no fuel while cranking
The pump is a roto diesel not a roosa master. this was installed by a previous owner I would guess.
Did I miss anything before removing the ip.
Is a roto diesel ip worth having rebuilt or should I try to get a roosa master.
thank Ed

I have been out of the loop for a while now but I don't recall ever encountering a "Roto Diesel Pump." Maybe I have and just don't remember it. Does this thing have electric shut off like the Roosa Masters? If so I would check and make sure you have 12 volts going to the pump before I would yank it off. Make sure you have fuel coming to the pump from your transfer pump and that your filter isn't stopped up. Just make sure all of your fuel flow points are there before you remove the injector pump.
As for your Roto Diesel pump being worth rebuilding? You will need to contact a couple of re-builders to see what they know about it. They will know the pump and be able to give better advice than I can. Maybe some of these other guys have had experience with these as well.

Okay... did some poking around on the internet... as in I Googled it. In fact I have been around the Roto Diesel pump before. As they say... Now I remember!!! This getting old crap is for the birds!!
I'm not sure how this ended up on your crawler. It could be someone could have replaced the original engine with a Deere engine from a different application. Some Ag applications used this pump instead of the Stanadyne / Roosa Master pump. The engines will bolt right up after changing the rear bell housing from Ag to Industrial.
This machine may also be a European issue machine. Some European applications used different designs that differed from the domestic versions.
This could also just be where someone figured out how to retrofit a different pump as well. Anything is possible I suppose. All I know for sure is that I never saw one on a domestic 350 before.
All of this said... your pump is very rebuildable if it truly needs it. I would still check the other possibilities before I would go to the trouble of pulling the injector pump. Hope this helps!!

I understand that!! There always seems to be something else that takes priority first! I've been rebuilding and old Bass boat for over a year now. May never get it done!!
If you get a chance, check the solenoid itself and make sure it is turning the fuel on.
Let us know when you do get back to it and good luck!!

Maybe I should ask how you are shutting the engine off. Does it shut off with the key switch? Or does it shut off with a pull cable? Some of these had a solenoid mounted towards the rear of the injector pump with an obvious wire leading to it. 12 volts then activated the solenoid to open the fuel valve in the IP. Then when you turn the key off the solenoid would close the fuel valve. Thus shutting the engine off.
Other pumps of this type also had manual shut off via a pull cable or lever of some sort. Still others would simply shut down the engine when the throttle lever was in the full down or off position.
If you have a solenoid and it isn't functioning then your pump will not allow fuel to flow through to the injectors.
This can also happen with manual shut off if something has either broken, come unfastened or gotten out of adjustment.
My point is for you to make sure everything is functioning properly before you go to the next step.

Well if you are getting fuel and you can hear the solenoid clicking, about the only thing I could suggest before pulling the pump is to unscrew the fuel return line and see if you are getting fuel out of that, as that will verify the pump is pushing fuel into the IP.
I agree with Leonard, see about getting the existing pump rebuilt if that is what needs to happen.
