John Deere 450B steering throwout shaft and fork

Post by np205 » Mon May 16, 2016 9:19 am

After tearing down the left side of 450B, there was nothing really wrong with steering clutches other than normal wear.
They weren't frozen at all. Came out of basket with no problems.

Brake band lining was worn severely.

Problem is AT26512 shaft and T20711 fork.

The shaft was frozen in bushings.

Took mild heat and lots of PB Blaster to get shaft moving easily in the bushings.
Had to cut a pressure plate section out because the fork would not release. (Yes I took the set screw out first.)

Removed basket with clutch/pp assembly.

Heated the T20711 fork dull red, popped it hard with brass drift while hot. Still won't come off the shaft.
Can't re-install clutch basket until the fork is free to swivel.

Deere dealer states these parts are NLA.

Anybody know where I can get a new or used shaft and fork for left side?
I could get by with only the AT26512 shaft.
Can cut the shaft in two, remove fork and press or drill remaining shaft out of the fork housing.

NP, are you talking about General Gear and Machine in Boise? I tried to reach out to them for a part for an Allis Chalmers wheel loader and they wouldn't ever answer their phone or e-mails. Any tips?

Never had problems contacting or dealing with General Gear in Boise.

Usually send email, they always respond same or next business day.

Shaft and fork on the way.
