350 Gas quits every 30 minutes
Troops,
I have a '68 350 gas which has fallen in love with my checkbook. I got this last year intending to use it to skid logs and tops when my neighbor logged off his woods next door. I expected some issues with it and I've not been disappointed in the least.
In addition to the usual pre-try-to-use-this-things' maintenance routine of changing oil, filters, greasing things, etc., I replaced the battery and the fuel pump which was leaking fuel into the oil. It started and ran well, but I didn't get a chance to really work it until April, when it got my cherry as I blew my first hydraulic line.
Anyhow, the machine starts and runs fairly strong until you work it (like pushing stuff around, dragging things and generally bulldozing) for about 30 minutes or so. It will then die. I can restart it once or twice by pulling full choke on it, but after 10 minutes or so, it dies again. a couple of choke pulls and twenty more minutes and it won't start at all. If I leave it set for a couple of hours, it will start and run for another 30 minutes or so and repeat the performance all over again.
Could this be a coil issue? Something in the distributor? Like I said the fuel pump is brand new and it does start and run well when cold.
What think ye, O' wise ones?

Hi,
Mud dauber wasps love to build in the fuel tank vent line. The fun part is they rarely seem to completely plug it. So....it vents....somewhat.
Now, as you work hard, it drinks more fuel, leading to a vacuum in the tank, leading to lean condition. Choke richens it, but then....too lean. Waiting lets the air dribble into the tank. Magically fixed....for a while.
Next time it quits, twist on the fuel cap and see if it hisses.

Make sure your fuel tank is clean as well. My 350 would die on occasion for seemingly no good reason during the winter and it turned out to be a little ball of ice (could be anything foreign in the tank) that drifts close enough to the pickup and gets sucked over the opening but cannot pass. Engine dies, suction lost, blockage clears, engine restarts, cycle repeats.
