410 Screen Filter

Post by tje » Sun Aug 28, 2016 5:10 pm

I've got a straight 410...Army model from 1975+-

I had hydraulic problems a couple years ago and found it was that screen tube filter at the bottom of the tank. I don't use the machine much and expect maybe 50 hours (over 2 years) and it happened again....just checked the screen and it was clogged again.

As hard as it is to get to the screen is this abnormal? I did run the heck out of it the last 4-6 hours before it slowed and could barely use the loader or backhoe to move off the ground.

Any fluid I can run through it to clean it out or are these just sediment particles for sitting a lot when the army used it and my own sitting time. Between the last time I changed it I replaced some hoses but basically it sits for long periods of time.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tom

is it like a fiber and rubber mixture?
if it is you may have hydraulic packing(s) in a cylinder breaking apart and traveling through the system.

The hydraulic filter is after the screen. I've changed both of them and they seem clean...although I will replace again when I put humpty dumpty back together again.

Yes, it looks like fiber, bits of rubber and some goo. I did change some hoses and have a couple more to change. I don't have many leak down cylinders but it makes sense about the packing and maybe even corroded interior of some hoses.

I'll replace a few of the oldest hoses and re-clean the screen after a few hours of run time.

Thanks,
Tom
