Raving for rippers

Post by amos » Sun Sep 18, 2016 7:33 am

Just did another clearing job with my 450G and got to use my 3 shank ripper. If you have a chance to get one for your dozer I highly recommend doing so. Worked great on loosening small stumps and customer wanted a trash pit filled and pit was in an area of hard clay. Rip and push is sooooo much easier than shaving 2" of clay per pass.
Side note: when I quoted the job I told the customer to leave the trees standing and he thought he'd save a buck by cutting them down. Cost him an extra chunk of change for the hours I was there digging stumps.
You tell people how to keep the cost down and they do the opposite. Amazing...

See it all the time as an auto tech......people come in with old vehicles and fluid leaks -- don't want to put money into them for the repairs. I tell them to check there vital fluids once a week and it will keep going for a long time, or stop in and I will do so for you.....4-5 months later "it overheated but I had to try and get home" or " the oil can looking thing came on then it stopped"

rippers on smaller crawlers really help..... makes tough digging or breaking roots around stumps so much easier.

I wish I did too. I cut a pad for a mobile home on the side of a hill a while back and wouldnt you know it I hit clay nearly immediately. Glad I had my mini-ex handy, I just went and broke the clay about a foot deep with it and then cut the pad to level with the loader. Could have done it on just the loader had I had a ripper. I will be building a pond soon, and I plan on the same method, unless something changes.

Wife kept asking why I (we) needed another dozer. D-6C haul fees getting crazy, just sold 350B (got $9900.00 for it from first man to call about it),350C with rake for raking and fence row work,450C (in process on functional rebuild) will be sold when done.Found the 450G with that ripper I wanted so bad and bought it.
Problems so far: weighs 18,800 pounds and have maxed out my haul trailer. Was missing front belly pan and that gold plated honey of a pan cost me $990.00.Installed new ROPS rear brush screen($600.00). New seat, arm rests, and seat belt was another $775.00. Spring cover missing on right side as was right side engine cover(another $650.00).Mechanical oil pressure gauge was $40.00 and oil pressure cold is 55 and at temp is 45.Major PM cycle was another $200.00 for filters and same for oils.Complete Manual set(John Deere) was another $550.00.Left steering clutch/brake needs adjusting.
This series with rippers is hard to find used as are used rippers. New rippers are pretty pricey.
Found 2 with rippers: one was a craigslist scam "located" in San Diego CA(don't call them and ad is all over major U.S. city CL sites) and the one I bought was 50 miles away(found it on Ebay listing).

I have a ripper on my 350c and would like to move it to a 450. I just have not been able to find a hoe bracket for the 450 otherwise it would have been moved over already. If anyone has a reasonable priced 450 bracket I would have it shipped here.
