There are 2 plugs over the rear axle of JD450b dozer (on both sides of dozer). Any idea what they are for? I can't find anything about them. Thanks.

I have a pic, but don't know how to attach it.

IF you are talking about the ones that are on an angle they are for steering clutch removal

2 plugs over driveshaft on JD450b dozer

Post by RP » Mon Oct 17, 2016 2:29 pm

Are both plugs over driveshaft used for steering clutch removal? I was told the one right above the driveshaft was used to fill the final drive. Thanks.

NO! NO! NO! AND NO!........ The angled one is to get to the set screw on the clutch/brake drum so you can remove the final drive pinon gear the one just forward of that one is to remove a brake band anchor pin ..... DO NOT PUT ANY OIL IN EITHER ONE as you WILL DESTROY the steering clutches and brake band

There is a pipe plug on the rear OR on the inside of the final drive just above the oil pan
