350C leaking reverser

Post by spm26191 » Fri Sep 22, 2006 10:43 am

I just bought a JD350C, according to the serial number it is an 84 model. It has oil leaking from the reverser to the transmission. I suspect a bad seal. Is there anything else I should be looking at? Everything seems ro run fine as long as there is fluid in the reverser. Thanks for any help you could give me.

Leak

There are two shaft end caps that support the reverser rear clutch shaft and countershaft. They have an O-Ring around each cap. There is also a seal in the rear clutch support cap. These caps bolt onto studs (older models) or 3 bolts. They have shims under them and set the preload for the reverser bearings. Pages 0350-5 and 0350-6 in the parts book show pretty decent pics. While you're that deep you'd might as well replace the o-rings and the seal.

There should be four bolts bolting the tranny to the reverser the 350's were bad about these losening up. And when this happens the tranny will come away from the reverser causing a gap and the fluid will leak out.If someone has had it apart and did not locktite the bolts they will losen up. Mine had this problem and all of my fluid leaked out. Hope this helps
