I would use JD hydrualic oil or equivalent. I'm not sure how much, sorry. The oil is poured in the bung hole on the top right side of the winch. If it has been idle for any period of time, it may be helpful to remove the cast plate on the bottom right to clean the small pickup screen, before you put new oil in. Good luck, Bruce

What model is your winch?

From the JD online parts list, I think the model on the winch is 3325. Where is the fill level? Thanks

I have done a little research and i believe there is a pipe plug on the right side of the winch. Remove this pipe plug and fill until oil comes out.

Thanks for info. I greatly appreciate it. Sounds like similar openings in bottom for drive trains to check oil level in them.
