JD 450 Won't Move

Post by jgbanshee » Sat Sep 30, 2006 6:41 am

I have 1966 450 dozer with the HLR and when I put it in R it won't move backward. I tried going through the speeds on the left hand side and I noticed them grinding into each gear. The clutch seems like it isnt even there. When I press the clutch in and leave it out, it doesnt seem to grab anything.

If you have forward gears only then your reverse clutch is gone.Digitup.

I got the machine to move forward today. I put it in L and 1 and it drives forward. It does not turn left or right or move in reverse. I tried every combination of ranges and speeds and still could not turn either direction or reverse. Is the problem still the reverse clutch?

I would say it is a multitude of problems 1 steering clutches 2 power shift clutches Both need to be looked into.Digitup.

1st step is a look into the clutch housing and see what condition the clutch is in 2nd step is the power shift housing A service manual and parts manual for your machine would be good to have before starting this task.Digitup.

My JD straight 450 crawler will not steer either direction. I bought a tech manual for it and started studying it. I pulled the hood off today and found that the power steering reservoir was completely empty. So, I added fluid and the steering levers (when pulled back) jerk or bounce rapidly and it still will not turn. The transmission fluid is full too. Of the H-L-R transmission, the R does not work either.
