450C Track Adjust Grease Fittings Leak, Need Special Ones?

Post by bugman » Mon Dec 26, 2016 6:35 pm

1978 450C crawler/dozer, the track tension adjuster zerk fittings were corroded up so I replaced them with some I bought at Autozone.

I can pump grease in the new fittings & the track DOES adjust as desired, but when I remove the grease gun from the fittings, grease immediately begins to ooze out of the fittings - from around the little ball in the end of the fittings, not around the threads where it is screwed in.

I replaced them AGAIN (with two more from the same assorted fittings kit I purchased at Autozone), those leak also.

I guess these from Autozone are just el-cheapos... maybe some better quality ones from a different parts house or Tractor Supply would work?... or does this require special "high pressure" grease fittings from John Deere?

Hi,

I have had leak issues with those Storehouse kit fittings. And, some which would not let grease in.

Either dirt or grit in your grease, or a nick in the ball or its housing - a manufacturing defect. You might try a post mortem with a big magnifier to see if you just got a bad run. Otherwise any zerk should do.
