jd 350 muffler

Does anyone know where I can get a under the hood muffler for a 1968 JD350 for a decent price? Or is there a kit to make it a vertical system? Also I've seen some info about a "re-life" program and they list another part number for the muffler. I think the program applied to the JD 350c and I'm not sure if the mufflers are the same. Any ideas? The part number I have is:AT19156 my local John Deere dealer can get it for $225.00 (ouch) The re-life part number is:AT21689 and I have found it online for $45.00. Any help would be great!

Deeres mufflers were made by Donaldson Muffler Devision and most still are made by them check with Donaldson on the internet.Digitup.

A "Relife" 350C uses a 179 c.i. engine, not a 152 or 164 like was in there originally.

It's pretty easy to stick the vertical muffler on there e.g. the AT21689.
It has the correct tapered-fit end. Problem with an original-engine 350 is you might not want the vertical muffler all the way up front. To get it further back - you need an exhaust manifold off an 820, 830, 1020, 300/301/302 industrial, 380 forklift, etc. Now, if it was a Case instead of a Deere - it would have an exhaust manifold with two outlets - one capped - making it universal.

That $225 price from Deere seems like a bargain compared to the asking price for new muffler for my AC HD6 from Allis-Gleaner Co. They want over $900!

I was able to find out that Donaldson manufactures the Deere muffler.
I could get no help from the local Donaldson shop , so I emailed them directly several times, but never heard back.
Mines pretty much straight piped right now and LOUD.
Ear plugs inside of ear goggles are a lot cheaper than the muffler!

If you are good with a welder you can make your own muffler I made two for my HD21B Allis's stock they only have a 5 inch straight pipe straight out of the turbo into a 90 degree elbow and out the stack They are a lot quieter when you sit on the old beasts all day at full throttle pullin in tile it is easyer on the ears and no power loss .A few other contractors have asked about mufflers and I showed them that they are no big deal to make .I used stainless steel also made them out of an old brewrey vat they will last longer that way .If you got the time you can do it .I just put baffles in the housing positioned that very little exhaust can go straight through with a straight pipe with flair tip off .Remember to drill a small hole for the rain in the bottom of the housing directly under the outlet if your dozer sits out side much.Or take the Donaldson number to TSC if you have one near you they sell Donaldson I know .Digitup .

The reason for high cost on these mufflers is because they are not only mufflers but also a spark arrestors--this is a state and federal regulation--and a very steep fine if used as a for hire machine Randy
