450 steering clutch

Post by bennyt » Tue Apr 04, 2017 5:44 pm

Code: Select all

I am working on the steering clutch on a 450 plain. On the brake drum there is a tapered lip on one edge. Is this normal or is it supposed to be flat all the way across?

It's a machined part. Does the edge have tool marks on it?

I'd have to say if it is worn, the brake must have been dragging alot. Is there heat or metal to metal damage? Is the band wear area flat? Is there any brake material on the band?

Sorry for the delay getting back on here. I've been busy with the arrival of my first grandchild @ age 70. It's a girl and she's a little doll. Now back on subject. The drum surface is smooth all the way across until it tapers up on the edge. I've never seen anything wear like this, but I guess anything is possible. Should I have it turned to make it flat all the way across?
