staight 350 doesn't move

Post by gregjo1948 » Mon May 15, 2017 4:00 am

I just bought a 350 with a running engine but, the dozer doesn't try to move forward or back. I bought it sight unseen and I'm going on what the seller is saying. He got the dozer when he bought a farm and it has been parked in the barn for 5 years. Said it fired up and ran fine but won't move. Said it's not making any grinding, clunking, squealing, or any other strange noises. Both steering clutches frozen released??? Reverser problem??? Pump??? What's your guess and where do I start looking to fix?
Thanks, gregjo1948

Hi,

If it has a reverser, I would look at the isolator first.

I think that may be it. On my 350B, the isolator sounds like someone hammering on the flywheel. I think the seller would have said something about that noise if it was present. I'll be picking the machine up today and might have a better idea what's wrong with it. I'll post what I determine.

UPDATE.... Got the machine in the shop and checked reverser for fluid.(within lines on dip stick) At about 3/4 throttle,(trans. in gear) shifting reverser from forward to reverse, it doesn't move but, I can hear a change in the engine briefly. I think the change might be fluid direction changing. Guess I'll have to pull the engine and get into the reverser. What do you think I'll find????? Thanks, gregjo1948

What drive coupling are you referring to? You mean the isolator?

Think hes referring to the coupler between the reverser and transmission. I have seen them strip out.

When it was gave out, would it make any noise when you tried to move forward or back? Mine doesn't sound like anything is happening when I engage the reverser in either direction. I would expect some sort of nasty noise from a stripped spline. gregjo1948

Hi,

The isolators usually make a racket when they go, and the coupler is usually quiet. But, of course, not always.....

You will just have to take it apart from the front to the rear, I am afraid....

With the engine removed, can I remove the reverser guts without removing the housing? gregjo1948

No, you will need access from the rear.
