John Deere 350b backhoe hookup questions

Post by Diehl equipment » Wed May 31, 2017 5:31 am

hey everyone pretty new to this site. I've had my little jd 350 for over 30 years and recently picked up another one. These little machines are worth there weight in gold and mines paid for itself many times over. Anyway this new machine has a ripper in the back. I recently found a backhoe series 93 I plan on sticking on the rear for work around the house.

First - question is can I use the rear ripper mount for the backhoe? ( backhoe is coming with mount off a 450 and it should fit as well from what I've been reading )

Second -question is what do I have to do hydraulics back to run this hoe?

I may be wrong, but as a general rule, unless the crawler left the factory as a hoe crawler, it is not hoe capable without extensive changes.

It left the factory as a crawler/ loader with ripper. If the hoe I'm getting comes with bracket it should be as simple mounting bracket ( or using my ripper mount and figuring out how to get two hydraulic lines ran? Am I wrong? From what I've been reading people have done it.

All Deere 350 and 450 Deere loader machines that I have seen from the original 1965 versions up the C models have the ability to accept the hoe / ripper hooks. They are an integral part of the loader assembly. Dozers machines on the other hand were a factory option so not all can take a hoe as is. We have built the hoe mounts which attach to the dozer mounting. Hoe hooks are not interchangeable between 350 and 450's. Both sizes of backhoe hook have flat horizontal bars which bolt to the loader / dozer assembly along with a short pin.

A hoe crawler has a much larger hyd pump, and the diverter and plumbing to run the hoe, a ripper crawler would not. It would only have an auxiliary valve to run the ripper which is not able to be used for a hoe.

Jason I appreciate the info is there any way you could pm me your email or number? I've searched this for a while now and you seem to have this all down about what it takes to hook up a hoe. The hydraulic pump is a 23gpm pump the hoe is a 93 series in the book says it needs 24gpm... yesterday I looked at the machine and it has a tee in the return line and there's a port on the valve body that would give me Flow to the hoe.

To me the main concern is if your machine is designed to accept hoe hooks, after that it's just a bit of hydraulic plumbing and maybe a bigger pump.

Do you have a loader or dozer machine? Most loaders have a power beyond valve for hoe use. Dozers came with a factory installed diverter valve to run the hoe, however you can tee in a pressure and there should be an extra return port - we put a separate hoe only relief valve in which we adjust so you can just move the crawler around with the hoe.

Loaders will have the right pump, dozers will most likely need a loader pump installed. However the dozer gets real fast. We did this on both a 350C and 450C dozers.

Post some pictures and we can help you out. You may also want to check out the online parts manuals so you can identify what you have vs don't have.

Went out to Pittsburgh and picked up the Backhoe. 5 hours one way and two hours loading and getting everything strapped down. Got it home and disconnected my ripper of the 350b ran 1 hydraulic line to the return tee and 1 to the power beyond port on my valve body. That gives me my 23gpm feed to the hoe. Replace about 500$ of lines on the how due to cracking and didn't want a hydraulic oil bath. Hooked it up late lastnight and it works like a charm. Plenty of power.. pretty fast for the age of it and has the rpm's set low. Nothing but rock out my way and had no problems digging. Hoe looks to be almost " new " with very little play in any of the pins.

I would be very cautious with all the extra weight of the hoe on the back of your 350. I had a 9300 hoe on my 450 & it was still tail heavy.

I've had it on the back now for a little while and it does make the front end feel like a feather. Thanks for the advice we are going to take an easy with it.

Hi,

Be careful with a hoe on a 350. They first destroy the rear rollers, then the ones ahead of them, then they destroy the sprocket stub axle bearings. This happens a lot sooner on a dozer than it does on a loader. I would not have the hoe attached until I needed it, then yank it back off as soon as I was done with it.

And, remember to couple the hyd lines on the machine after yanking the hoe and before restarting the machine, or....poof...no more pump.

Not going to keep it on all the time just when I need it. I appreciate the help from everyone with this. I don't run this machine every day just for toying around the house.
