Hello all, 66 year old newbie here.
In retirement, I have purchased a large Trapline in an area subject to forest fires. I need a small loader or dozer to clean up the brush around the cabin and doze the 1/2 mile road in winter. 4 -5ft of snow is normal. I expect to use it 100 hrs/year. A bit of 24" log handling also in the cards.
Now the question: I have the opportunity to purchase a John Deere 555 model A serial # 42a7154. Owners Son knows little about it, says it uses oil. Purported to have 3400 hrs. Can anyone tell me if this machine is one prone to transmission issues, and what year is it? Also any advice on any other machines? I am not beholden to Deere or any other model, i just think a skid steer is not the ideal machine, and they are prone to theft around here. Budget is $10,000
Thanks in advance, Roger
