Need a quick fix for hydraulic oil moving from front dipstick to back

Post by wildbill3030 » Fri Jun 23, 2017 11:54 am

Have a 350ce and am losing oil front to back. Where is the drain plug for the rear dipstick?

I don't understand what you mean "front dipstick to back". If you clarify, perhaps we can help.

Thanks for your response. I was afraid i wasnt clear. I really dont know which dipstick is which. I suspect the dipstick right under instruements is transmission. It is losing hyraulic oil, no leaks. Rear dipstick at the front edge of seat ( final drives)? Is gaining oil. A gentleman 5 years ago( this machinewas idle for a while)said someO rings could be bad under seat. But my question is just to use this machine on a limited basis, where is the drain plug to drain that level down and i can keep the front one full

I have a 350B dozer with dry steering clutches. My trans. drains right out of the bottom of the trans. housing thru a hole in the skid plate. If you have a parts book for your 350C, you can probably fine drain plugs in it.

Thanks guys. Will try to squeeze under there and get transmission drained down to normal.

If this happens quite a bit, I might be inclined to buy one of those small drill-driven pumps and transfer oil from the tranny to the reverser. Just mark the suction hose so the drill stops pumping when it gets to the right level in the tranny, and watch your reverser dipstick by checking it often so that it does not become over-filled.

This is not a forever-fix, just a farmer fix, but might allow for less mess and not having to climb underneath, drain, refill etc.

Just a suggestion, do as you wish.
I have no intention of traveling to my grave in a well manicured body; instead I am going to slide into heaven with a big power turn, totally wore out with busted knuckles, jump off my dozer loudly yelling, Woo Hoo, another Shepard has just arrived!

You need to drill & tap a fitting and instal a line into the reverser housing .and the transmission case .this will level out the oil between the two cases .I've done this and works great .angle drill is the best .3/8 line is what I used

Did you ever try and diagnose the problem?

Most likely one of the steering clutches is leaking, which is operated by the reverser pump.

Technical manual and gauge test is where I would start.
