Hey Guys
Ive been looking at a 1977 JD550 (straight) that just came up for sale in my neck of the woods. I`m a little hesitant with the dozer, after reading about some of the transmission problems on some of the different post on here. What should I look for/ check on these dozers before making an offer? Other than the obvious stuff, welds, leaks, etc. ? If you suggest just passing it by completely, I Appreciate any thoughts, comments, from you guys. Thanks

Good question. Whenever I hear 550, I think 'bad transmissions'. Saw someone give his away after tranny frustration.

That's what worries me most is transmission problems. I went thru the transmission problems before on a 450c, I can relate to the giving it away. most nerve racking ordeal ive ever seen.
