350 model clarification

Post by tc350b » Sun Jul 16, 2017 9:13 am

I am looking at acquiring a JD 350AD model-serial # 140570l, but can't find any info to determine year and parts availability. Is anyone familiar with this model or can recommend any sources. Research so far implies the "A" refers is actually a "C" model and the "AD" together may indicate mfg in foreign country like Canada. Also the number series for "C" models may indicate a 65 model. However not sure of any info yet. Unit is gas and 2 way blade.

I just acquired a 350AD140570L, with a full enclosed cab, and made in Germany. I have researched extensively and not found any sources to decode the serial number , but there are some facts pointing to a 1974 mfg date. The cab has a serial # and also a 74 maybe indicating a mfg date. I also just saw on mach trader, an auction result with pics and a serial # of 140569L and listed as a 1972 model made in Germany also. So, I am getting closer.

I must say, that is very rare to see consecutive serial numbers. Especially with an unusual model. Good luck, Bruce

Hi,

My guess here is that Dubuque was developing the B series and so production in other countries were using the A series designation. This, where Dubuque did not use the A designation at all. Being the lead plant, doing the R+D, they would not have thought to use the A designation until they decided to make enough changes to warrant a B designation.

In practice, Dubuque having no series designation letter is defacto an A series. We here on this board, of course, refer to it as the Straight 350 series.
