350 water pump is tight after 1 year of inactivity

Post by andygale » Mon Jul 17, 2017 3:48 pm

Hi all, Doris my 350 has sadly been neglected a bit, the fan is just about moveable with the fan belt slackened, and will not be turned by the engine with the fan belt tightened, it squeals.

As she's on a hillside, I'm not looking forward to lugging lots of tools up there, so my question is if there's any trick to loosen what I presume are the bearings without stripping down to get the pump off ... thanks in advance Andy

By the way a good way to find posts on this forum is to use Google to find what your looking for as the forum software isn't as good as google.

paste this into google:

Google has to index the site to get these results, so new posts don't show up right away.

I'd reach in and try moving it back and forth with the belt loose. Move it short distances, going a little farther as you proceed.

I'd try what Gregjo1948 suggested but if that didn't work, I'd pull the belt off and drive it to the shop even if you had to stop and let it cool down a couple times. I'd bet you could drive it several minutes at a time before it started to get hot.
