I believe the official name in my parts book is baffle.I'll have to look at it more closely to explain furthur.

On a related note--it seems on a C model, the turbo is for HP increasing. On my D dozer, it is an altitude compensating turbo which would make sense because it originally came from out West 34 years ago.Thoughts on that?
Hi Tuney,
Any non-computer controlled turbo will increase H.P. More modern computer controlled turbo's can be utilized for altitude adjustment only.
Briefly: a turbo increases amount of air(specifically the amount of oxygen in the available air) introduced into the combustion chamber. With increased available air and correct injectors a larger fuel air mixture is available. More fuel air mixture means more "bang" per cycle. More bang results in more H.P.
Computer controlled turbos actuate when a lowering of O2 in available air is sensed(O2 sensor). Very simply a dump valve is closed and turbo directs more air into the cylinders to compensate for low O2 read.
