450 Serial Number

Post by 450FiveString » Tue Dec 19, 2017 4:50 pm

I'm looking at a 450 that had caught fire but didn't suffer too much damage. The owner sent me a picture of the S/N plate and it is T5F3M then the number looks like 078735 with another digit or letter after that. Looking at the S/N info on this site makes me think the S/N must be 678735 or could it be C78735? It definitely looks like there is a digit or letter after the 5. What model is this?

Jim,
Was the straight 450 non-turbo? Might be the easy way to determine model since 450C was with turbo. Good Lavoy question.

Did a quick search and found by using the last 5 digits of 78735 you gave that:
450C serial numbers began with 372282 in 1982
same series began with serial number 389143 in 1983.
last 5 of 78735 fits within the last 5 digit range for units made in 1982.
This was toward the end of the production era so would definitely be a machine with a turbo.
If yours doesn't have a turbo then a pic might help members ID it for you.
