Mouse House and Buffet

Post by amos » Fri Jan 12, 2018 9:39 am

Customer of mine and I were chewing the fat yesterday and since we both have dozers and such we talked dozers. He has a newer JD 650 series Pre DEF but computerized probably J or H series but I forgot to ask. Anyway, a mouse chewed through a wire and it was dead(dozer and not the mouse). Fix required pulling the risers, bullnose, radiator and other parts to get to the wire. JD Construction dealer did the fix in the field and it was "only" $5600.00. All because of a mouse.
Ya'll know how I love my older pre-computer equipment. Just another reason to keep with what I know will last. The newer stuff is nice and loaded with all kinds of fancy features and runs like a dream: until a hungry mouse comes along. One would think JD would enclose all exposed wires with metal conduit but I suppose the added $200.00 to a $250,000.00 machine doesn't make sense to them.

The real problem is that all the insulation on wire these days is soy based and mice just love that stuff.I've had 2 Duramax Chevys where the little varmints got inside the computer terminal under the hood and chewed up a bunch of those 16-20 gauge wires.

Haven't ever tried it but have had friends swear that spritzing ungodly hot pepper sauce on wires helps. Not your typical Tabasco sauce but the ones made with ghost peppers or something like that.
