Lugs down motor in reverse

Post by S Morton » Fri Jan 19, 2018 5:45 pm

I have a 450C crawler that I noticed that at times when I shift the HLR into reverse it will really bog down the motor. It does not do it in forward. Also at times when I first start it up it is slow to want to move forward or reverse. Is there a certain warm up time required before running it?

Above 32 degrees I wouldn't worry with more than a normal 3-5 minute warm up. Sounds more like a plugged tranny screen/filter. Look through tracks on right side about centerline near the top roller. You will see a 3 bolt cover flange(from memory and could be four bolt).Right above the skid plate. That is the cover plate for the filter or screen. Remove it and check to see if it's plugged. This will cause delay in movement but lugging of engine is odd.

If you are going to pull the tranny screen make sure you drain transmission oil first or it will dump when you remove screen cover

I had replaced the front filter but the manual I have does not show maintenance so I am waiting for that manual to come. I will try that and see if it helps. It is almost like the brakes are partially on but it is only in reverse.

Sounds like the forward clutch is not fully disengaging. If it happens at random it is probably a control valve problem.

Are there rebuild kits for the clutch control valve or is it a matter of changing o-rings and such?
