Hour Meter: To Believe or not to Believe. That is the question...

Post by amos » Fri Jan 26, 2018 7:13 am

I'm a non believer: especially on older equipment.Seen functioning meters on dozers indicating "very low" hours and track group completely worn out. Same result with pretty much all equipment over 20 years old that I look at.
But I also have a New Holland TC-55 I bought new in early 2000's and it has 127 hours on it:when I ever end up on the wrong side of the dirt someone will end up with one heck of a true "barn find".
What do ya'll think?

Hi,

If the wear matches the meter, go with it. If not, well, You Know. ;)

I, generally, don't buy vehicles or machines buy their age. I prefer things pre computer/circuit boards. I try to judge things by the condition they're in.

Agreed. I like working on the older per computer stuff as well, to a point. My exception is vehicles with carburetors, I hate them with a passion. I will not own a vehicle that doesn't have fuel injection on it. If it didn't have FI, I will add it. The ECM's that control the fuel injection are pretty much bullet proof now. Couldn't say that in the beginning, OEM's had there hands full with making it live and work in the automotive environment. Now the manufacturing and technology has caught up. Now a days Turbocharging is an excepted norm, as is direct injection both of which help a 4 cylinder 2.0 liter make in excess of ~ 300 HP from the factory and yet run beyond 100,000 miles.

While I do enjoy the old stuff I do like some of the newer stuff, although the newest car I own is a 2008.
