450C engine serial number ?

Post by nelstomlinson » Wed Jan 31, 2018 10:26 am

I need an overhaul kit for my 450C loader: there is water in the oil, so while I have the head off I want to put in new jugs and pistons and bearings and so on. That leads me to three questions:

1) Where is the engine serial number? I can't see one yet, but that may be because it's hard to see the engine through the loader arms.
2) The machine serial number is 450CA 224773T. Can we guess the engine SN close enough from that to get the right kit?
3) Lavoy, can you supply that rebuild kit? If so, could you give me a budget number for the cost?

The engine ID tag is an aluminum one riveted to the right side of the block, between the transfer pump and the starter. As best as I know then SN and engine ID # are not associated. Your engine is likely a 4219, although a 4239 could have been swapped in.

Between the transfer pump and the starter? That's not going to be easy to get to. At least I know where to look now, thanks.

Yes, In that general area. A real PITA when the loader is down! Degreaser, brush, and a good bright light

Fortunately, the loader arms are up just enough that I can see the area between the starter and the fuel pump. I can see what looks like two rivet heads sticking up, and what looks like painted iron between and around them. I think someone has pried off the engine serial number plate. I have a picture of no serial number, but no place to upload it to.

I see that John Deere has a part number of RE61610 for the rebuild kit. It's the same part number for the 450B, 450C and 450D. Do you suppose that means that engine serial number doesn't matter?

I agree that the engine number plate is missing. This site has it our in-bedded photo site, you can read about it in the Q&A section in the main board area. I think you are okay to order the engine kit based upon your research. Does it appear that the engine is original or replaced.

You could check with Lavoy on the kit price before you pull the trigger. That is part of what keeps the lights on around here.
