3315 winch w/valve spool control reels in with 750lbs psi put in free spool no pressure can't pull off

You have confirmed the small Webster pump is putting out pressure with 750psi in the spool-in position. So we know the p/u screen is clean, the pump is working. I'm not able to recall from memory what the recommended operating pressure is supposed to be, but 750psi should be enough to free-spool. By the way how and where did you measure the free soool pressure?

Your lack of pressure in free-spool means either the spool valve needs rebuilt, the lines/hoses to the brake cylinder are plugged, or (most likely) the seal in the brake cylinder is bad. This brake cylinder is in the left case and is responsible for releasing the brake band for free-spool. If the cylinder seal has completely failed(zero pressure) in free-spool, there should be lots of oil in the left case, where there should be no oil.

Make sure you put a new hydraulic filter on, this has nothing to do with the lack of free-spool. The filter is a passive filter and there is no way to determine if it is plugged or not on the machine.

Take care, Bruce

I swapped spool valves with same response.checked pressure on left case in plug hole top of case.filter is new.i have had case off and no oil present

IIRC there are two small allen head plugs in the bottom left side of the case. I believe the plug closer to the left/outside of the winch is a drain hole for the left case(that is to be dry and empty). The plug closest to the centerline of the winch is the test port for the brake cylinder.

Since you have swapped spools and no change, it is doubtful to be a bad or two bad spools. It doesn't sound like the case is full of oil bypassed through a faulty brake cylinder seal. Starting to feel like blocked passsage or internally collapsed hose that moves hydraulic pressure from the spool valve through the case to a steel hydraulic line to the blind brake cylinder.

Has the length been checked or properly adjusted with the brake band threaded adjustment?

Rain, rain can't get anything done going to check brake band adjustment and going to turn up pressure on pump will post results

Cold weather, snow, ice coming and going here in the upper Midwest. Yes, keep us posted. IIRC the pump pressure is bxt 800-1,000 psi. Use the correct ports as described above. They will likely be full of garbage and need purged before tested. The port to test the brake cylinder pressure is a blind circuit. Bruce

Adj brake band 4-11/16 ,turned pump set screw in 2 turns have over 800lbs psi ,now all it does is spool in wont lock up just keeps spooling until I kick out pto

Visually confirm the brake cylinder is responsive to the spool valve. Increasing the pump pressure could have caused an o-ring failure with the spool valve in the winch-in circuit; therefore, causing a perpetual winch in situation. Other possibilities-worn brake springs (you have the correct adjustment) they can look good but be weak, they are relatively inexpensive to replace. The brake band is clean, dry and in good shape?

Took springs out going to replace, have brake band off looks glazed don't know how thick brake band lining should be do you know if you can get reclined and where

You could send an email or call Lavoy,

I have personally used Frictionworksllc. OEM lining material, metal all cleaned, good turn around. Mike's # (419) 677-1167.

J-kequipment in Maine has them. Kevin has them re-lined and then has them available to his equipment customers. He deals with skidders, a lot. Great people

Take care, Bruce

Smitty, did you get this figured out.. first thing to mind from the description of what your winch was and was not doing is this,, springs and brake band have nothing to do with the problem as you described it... they will only help when winch is slipping it's load, as not holding the logs up to the dozer when driving away..

I read your post twice.. do you have a spool valve control??? as they were on quite old winches.. more to the right side of winch.
or do you have the rotary valve control box,,, 3'"s square left top side of winch as you stand behind it and look forward..

your symptoms sound like a rotary valve,, it has a machined shaft inside with holes drilled to align for each function,, with spring pressured bronze aligning circuits,, these bronze bushing things get scratch grooves in them and therefore don't seal tight to the highly polished shaft and oil leaks by and then goes wherever it can and acts strange... they make a rebuild kit,, pricey for what you get,, pump pressure should be 850 to 1050psi.. they work best at 1000psi.. 800 is not enough.. please verify which controller you have square rotary on left,, or cylindrical spool valve on right..
the spool valve is much cheaper to rebuild,, good luck Mark.

3315 winch I have the rotary valve, four hyd hoses go from winch to control valve.now I have oil leaking out of left side plate I believe that is clutch pressure port.it will not stop spooling in.

Now that you have confirmed you have the rotary valve and not the spool valve, you can move forward with pondhogvt's suggestions. I agree pondhogvt, your issues are scored sealing surfaces in the rotary valve. Rebuild, replace(sounds like you have a second that you have already tried and has the same issues as the original), loacate-buy-install a spool valve. Thank you for keeping us posted, Bruce

FYI , J-KEquipment.com has the rotary valve listed in their winch parts section. I just looked, $500-used, $750-new.
