350B Loader Track

Post by JDJIM202 » Tue Apr 03, 2018 9:53 pm

This loader needs track on left side, rails, pins and bushings bad but right side is good however the right side only has 35 links. If I put another chain on left side (36 links) will it pull to one side or mess up something?

I suspect the prior owner "short tracked" the chain. Toward the end of u/c service life, the front idler runs out of adjustment. Some will cut out a link in the chain to regain some adjustment. It will not walk to one side or the other simple b/c of a short track, that would require other problems. Take care, Bruce

Hi,

Don't forget that as the pins and bushings wear, the track pitch lengthens. So, the sprocket teeth wear to match. When installing a new chain, you also need to install a new sprocket or the old sprocket will prematurely wear out the new chain.

It is the lengthening of the pitch which led to the one side being short tracked. That means what you think is the good track isn't really all that good. By the time one needs to do that, the u/c is past 100% worn.

Oh, and while you are at it, take a hard look at the rollers. Loader equipped crawlers wear their rollers much more quickly that dozers do. It would be a PIA if you have to drop the tracks again because you find out later on rollers need attention as well.
