I would suggest the hydraulic hose that operates the left steering clutch is leaking; therefore, filling the left steering clutch housing with oil.

Is your crawler a track loader? SN lookup puts it as a 1974. Do you know if the sumps are common? Based on your symptoms, I would suspect your sumps are not common. The early C series did not have common sumps, but could be converted(as outlined in the tech manual). Non-common sumps have the trans separate from right steering case separate from the left steering case. There are 2 hoses(1-left 1-right) that feed pressure from the transmission case to the respective steering case depending on which steering lever you pull back on. This provides pressure to release the clutch pack allowing the crawler to steer. These hoses develop leaks inside the steering case. Fluid is transferred from the trans sump to the steering case, eventually overfilling the steering case. Hope this helps, Bruce

It is a track loader, with back hoe attachment on the back. I do not know the configuration of the pumps. Looks like i have a lot work ahead of me removing hoe and big weldment that it is hooked to. There is a 4" x 1" bar above the cover that keeps me from removing cover.
Thanks for the help Guys

Well guys, i finally got the cover off the steering clutch. I started it up and it does not appear to be leaking oil out of either of the lines( common sump mod. not done). Oil did fill up quickly without applying the brake handle, it looks like its coming from outboard side of clutch or the bottom . Any ideas?

Must be leaking from the clutch pressure manifold, part # T41473. There are a couple of o rings inside this manifold that are likely the problem.
