need Tachometer Cable for 350B

Post by stew1944 » Tue May 08, 2018 10:55 am

I need a Tachometer Cable (AT 18769 T) for my new, to me, 350B. Does anyone have a source? I have searched the forum and internet, but can't find anything.

Thank you,

I looked on jdparts, it says a tach cable for a 350b is AT31116.

I've been searching around for one that fits my 440. There are a whole bunch models that use the same cable.

Hi,

There were tachs on the gas engines. Biggest issue is if you don't have one, you don't have the drive unit. Just a plug in the hole where it goes. I have had at least a dozen gas 2-cyl tractors over the years and only one, a 420w orchard, had a tach and drive. I have seen a lot of tachs available, but precious few drive units.

As usual, Lavoy would be your best bet. Send him an email, as PMs can be somewhat iffy.

Just to clear up some possible misconception.

My 440 is a rubber-tired cable skidder modeled on a gen 1 3010, not an older crawler.

Should not be an issue. Would have though that it would have come from the factory with one. Was not an option on the tractors, they just came with them, assumed the skidder would as well.

I have gotten a new tachometer cable, but now I don't see where it connects to the motor. I assumed it would connect to the injector pump housing, but I don't see where. The original cable is missing, so I can't follow that back. Anyone?

I found it, but on the left side( sitting in the seat). There is a hole, but nothing else. Storms here so I didn't try to see inside, but this has me concerned. The open hole could be letting dirt into the cam area? I could reach around and poke my finger in, but only felt some kind of a blocking. Hopefully I can get the hood off and see better when the storms pass.

Hi,

There ought to be a fitting (as they label it in the parts catalog) in the hole. With a gear inside the fitting which extends into the hole to mesh with the gear on the end of the camshaft. The upper part of the inside of that fitting accepts the end of the tach drive cable. And, the outer part of the cable has a nut to thread onto the end of the fitting.

Sounds like you are missing the drive fitting part.

Stan

Edit: BTW, I always referred to the fitting and gear as the Tach Drive.
