350 B brake band

Post by timmtnman » Fri May 11, 2018 5:45 pm

Getting ready to start tearing it apart to replace broke brake band. Does anyone have a video or any tips on how to make this easy. First time doing this and any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

Hardest parts are (a) finding and driving out the master pin and (b) holding up the weight of the final drive while rotating it at the same time. It is worthwhile making up the hoop they show in the manual.

Service manual procedure is about the best description, read through it a few times to familiarize yourself with it, but keep the manual handy while disassembling.

Thanks, been reading the book and studying the dozer too. Will the final have to come all the way out just to replace band or can I slide it out far enough just to replace the band.

Either way you will need to support the final. Best bet is to just remove it. You should be looking at clutches and pinion seal as long as the final is off.

Got it torn down today and I think it looks pretty good in my opinion except for brake band being broke. Would post pics to get the experts opinions but can't figure out how to post them.

After inspecting everything I noticed 1 of the return clips was on and one had fell off and one is missing. Deere doesn't have them available anymore. How important are these and does anyone have some extra ones available.

I got the band on and started around the drum but I can't get it to go in. It is about 2 inches away. Is there a trick to get it in or am I doing something wrong.

when I install the final I use guide studs to keep everything straight you might to have to help the band over the drum with a bar

Thanks Jim, I have it on two long rods in th smaller holes and two longer bolts in the top and band is started on drum. Everything looks good but it likes about 2 and half inches to go in. Is it the shaft hitting or not aligned properly. The shaft is still attached to the dozer side. Have tried a few different things and it will nor slide in.

mostly, i found that the brake lining grabs the brake drum and kinks inside the housing...just have to keep brake band on straight and working inward and keep weight supported. i actually used a large rubber mallet on mine and bumped it in a bit and literally turned my bolts in with fingers after each bump and making sure brake band straight...it too moves....also loosen brake band as much as possible for clearance

Finally got it back together and adjusted everything. The right side which is the brake band I replaced, has a vibration when I pull the lever back. It had a vibration right before the band broke also. It steers like it is supposed too now. I left the covers off while testing and the ball joints are pretty sloppy on that side. Would that cause a faulty adjustment and not let things work properly causing a vibration. Or is there something else causing the vibration. The harder you pull the worst it gets also.
