Anti-freeze to be exact. I posted in show and tell a few weeks back about a 350c wide track that I bought at auction, online, accidentally. I was really interested in a mini ex that was selling after this so I thought I would experiment with the proxi-bid process on this JD (first time bidding on proxi) and because of my super slow internet I ended up with the dozer at $1000 more then when I hit bid.
Anyhow got it home and found antifreeze in the oil. Made a radiator adapter put 15 lbs air pressure to cooling system and watched the gauge slowwwwwly drop next morning still had 8. Pulled the pan and found water (trace) around #3. Pulled the head and removed the piston and after a hearty effort finally got the liner out. The muck and crap around the liner was incredible , never seen anything like it 1 and 2 had just a little at the bottom but 3 was packed. I noticed what looked like locating dowel in the block which completely closed off the last waterway in the cylinder. There were no dowels or hollow dowels in a oil passage just the water passage. Is this right?.. I have never seen ( I am not a mechanic, just tinker) a locating dowel in a waterway, that just seems wrong. PM shows 2 dowels but can't tell where they would go. Any thoughts guys?

Re: Water in oil
Does it look like it has been apart before? Maybe a dowel had fallen out and reinstalled into a wrong hole.

There are some Images of John Deere 3 cylinder (152 cid) blocks with the dowels in them on the web, those might help you with where they should be.
Re: Water in oil
All back together and runs real nice. #3 cylinder was completely engulfed with "muck" in the water and had cavitation holes in the liner. New liner and rings and a new set of injectors and this ol 350c is ready to go back to the swamp....
Re: Water in oil
Good job. It is always nice to hear/see a good machine brought back to serviceable condition. Are you using an anti-cavitation additive or did you use the life time coolants that have the additive in them already? Bruce
Re: Water in oil
I just put cheap antifreeze in it now and will flush it again after a couple hours of run time and then I will put good coolant in with addditive
