I'm in the process of rebuilding a final on my 350B and plan on using the old pressure plate. My question is with the new clutch packs do I need to worry about redoing the adjustment on the pressure plate? I'm replacing the throw out bearing while it is apart too.
Thanks,
Ernie

Re: rebuilding 350B final and reusing pressure plate
Am I asking a dumb question, or has no one tried to reuse their old pressure plate? I hate to spend the money on a new plate when my old one seems in good shape, but I really don't want to pull the final again at my age (73). Lol

Re: rebuilding 350B final and reusing pressure plate
Hi,
Well, Dad reused the original pressure plates on his 420c back in 1966 and again in 1989. He also reused the steel plates. Of course all parts were checked and measured first. Now, that 420c hasn't seen the use it did between 1958 and 1966 nor what it did between 1966 and 1989. But, as the pink bunny says: Still Going.
If there is doubt regarding the reusability of parts, or doubts about checking them, then just change them out. As noted one doesn't really want to go back in because it turns out something is not up to snuff.

Re: rebuilding 350B final and reusing pressure plate
Good morning,
First off, I am not terrible familiar with the 350's. I thought there was a special tool to set the height of the pressure plate contacts for the throw-out bearing. I think this would be a very important step, since you are changing the height of the clutch pack with new clutches.

So the question/s are:
What do you mean it looks OK? Visual test tells nothing about spring pressure, which is the critical factor assuming nothing is damaged or broken.
Is it really worth saving $140 and running the risk of not having to pull the final again.
What is your time worth if you have to pull the final again?

Yes, you're right, Lavoy. I've decided not to chance it and will be ordering a new pressure plate.

Hi,
Yes, spring pressure would have to be measured. If you don't have a way to do that, then just get new ones. At which point, you need the gauge to set the finger height.
