Hey guys,
Im looking for your ideas on a starting issue on a 1996 450G. Dozer starts easily when cold but after it's ran for about 30 minutes, and you shut off the engine, it will just sit and crank till you kill the battery, and never start back. You can hit it with a small shot of starting fluid, and it will fire up, and run fine till you turn it off again, Then same issue again. I've changed the lift pump thinking maybe it was causing the problem, but no such luck. What are your guys thoughts as to where to start looking for the problem. Thanks in advance for your help.

Re: 450G starting issue
Have you changed/checked the filter? Mine is between the lift pump and inlet of IP. Loosen and/or remove line feeding IP, press handle on lift pump to make sure you have a good flow of fluid.
Only other thing would be that the IP pump outlet pressure is low when it gets hot which would mean the head is worn.

May be low compression after it gets to operating temperature.

Thanks for the replies. I think I'll change the fuel filter tomorrow just to see if that makes any difference.
If it turns out to be the IP head being worn, is that something that can be rebuilt, or would the pump have to be completely replaced?

It's been posted 50 times and I don't know if it's ever fixed the issue but....have you checked the vent on the tank to make sure it's not creating a vacuum and making it harder than normal to start?

77 Ford, I appreciate the reply. I spoke to a Mechanic at a local John Deere dealer today, and explained my situation to him. His suggestion was to check the fuel cap, to see if the vent was clogged. Haven't had a chance to check the cap yet, but have noticed pressure in the tank when I go to refuel.
