1985 450 E dozer engine oil pressure

Post by Therealstilts » Fri Aug 03, 2018 10:00 am

Alright guys I have been stumped with this one. I have a 1985 450e deere dozer and am having trouble with the oil pressure. It is 30-40 psi cold and at a idle warm 5-10. Now I know everyone says shim the oil pressure relief valve so I took the front cover off and where the pressure regulator is suppose to be is a empty hole. So I ordered parts from deere and the hole is way to big for the parts. I need some help figuring this out. Everyone I ask that is knowledgeable seems to not know what I'm talking about I have pictures of the cover and plate behind the gears. Help please

Maybe your sender is bad. Mine was on my 450C. Barely had oil pressure. Now all good.

Try threading a mechanical gauge in the sender hole to see what your oil pressure is...guessing it is 1/8" pipe thread. That will tell you if your sender or even gauge is bad. My water temp gauge got water inside and the readings went all wonky, ended up changing the gauge.

Am I correct in saying your oil pressure gauge is a mechanical gauge? That is what my 450E has. It is not as likely there is a problem with a mechanical gauge it but check the tubing and you can always try a second gauge to see if it reads the same.

According to my Technical manual (Repair) the oil pressure regulating valve is located behind the oil cooler, not in the front cover. The parts catalog drawings would lead one to think it was in the front cover. You have to remove the oil cooler.

There are two technical manuals for the 450E you should have. The Operations and Test Manual # TM1330OP and the Repair Manual # TM1330RE.
