Banjo style fittings

Post by 77 Ford » Mon Aug 13, 2018 6:57 am

Is there a trick to these banjo fittings sealed? I purchased a skid steer a couple months ago and after getting home I discovered it had a fuel leak. I changes a few o rings on the injector pump but what it turned out to be was a banjo style fitting to an injector at the back of the fuel pump. I took it apart looked at it for a few minutes put back together and it's fine. Fast forward to Saturday my 450c loader which I changed the injection pump on recently started leaking diesel fuel. I shut it down and and pulled the covers and it was the same kinda deal leaking at the banjo fitting. I just took it loose a small amount and tightened it again and leak is gone.

I guess now that's happened twice I'm wondering are there some trick to keeping these things sealed?

Thanks!

Generally your suppose to replace the cooper seal when it's been taken apart. I've go an old Ferguson with a 23C Diesel that I have to replace a lot of those cooper washers when I did a rebuild. Found the cooper seals on fleabay.

Hi,

The hard steel parts have concentric ridges which crush that shaping into the soft copper washers. If you could exactly match the placement of the washer upon reinstall, it would seal. But, you can't ever get them back in exactly. So, they leak. The answer is to use fresh copper washers every time.

I hear what you're saying I guess what confuses me is I wasn't taking them apart they just started randomly leaking. When I replaced my IP it did come with all new copper rings.

Hi,

Maybe the PO did something there. Like you, I don't know why they'd just up and start leaking all by their lonesomes.....

I have a B414 IH and the banjo fittings on it will leak sometimes. Most of the time they will stop leaking on their own. Other times I just tighten the bolt a little. My theory is this is caused by vibration.

Hi,

Probably caused by Bad Vibrations from my 420c because it has to share shed space with the upstart, younger, 350C!! :P
