Engine help

Post by Jason37756 » Fri Aug 31, 2018 6:19 pm

Went to start my 350 straight after a month of setting in the dry and she started right up at half throttle.

After about 5 seconds of what sounded normal I heard a dull thud sound and she died...upon trying to restart, the motor is very hard to turn over via the key and I hear a liquid sound coming from the exhaust...engine seems like it has too much compression and will turn slowly then just barely until the pressure is somewhat relieved.

Any thoughts?

Did the head gasket fail? Check your coolant level and you engine oil for coolant.

Engine oil looks perfect...radiator is too low to see any coolant, I am unsure if it was like this when I parked it.

It ran like a top a month ago before I parked it. My current guess is hydro lock with a bad head gasket allowing coolant to leak into one cylinder.

Can I just remove an injector, check for coolant, and see if it cranks easier blowing out the coolant if there is any?

Thanks

Solved!

Air intake full of water...filter rusted out.

Apparently water does take the path of least resistance. This time it was 4 weeks of rain leaking perfectly onto the ROPS and then draining into the intake housing.

The rusted out filter has no doubt been a work in progress over the years.

This will be a pre check before every job now.
