limb riser kit for 555A

Post by ngilles » Tue Sep 04, 2018 6:35 pm

Good evening all,
I'm still in the process of purchasing the 555A. I hope to have that wrapped up soon and have the machine home. I've looked at a lot of different dozers and decided the track loader would suit my needs on the farm the best

Does anyone know of a limb riser kit for a 555A track loader? I can see how they would be narrower and come up to the 4 post ROPS pillars. Just wondered if there was such a thing since a good part of my time will be in the woods.

Thanks for the info in advance,
Nick

Hi,

I made a set for my 450E. I did a Google search for a "kit" and it was $700-800. Yeah, no. I look for used, but most are bent junk. I made some out of 2"×2" 1/4" wall square tubing. I bought some 3/8" thick weld tabs from a 4x4 shop called Ballistic Fabrication for mounting to the ROPS and hardnose. Laser cut, really nice quality. I modified the stack with a mandrel bent "j pipe" for making headers on hot rods. I never made a custom exhaust before, so this took some time to get it right. Total cost, maybe $100. I'll post a few pictures when I can.

Sorry for the delay in posting these. Hopefully the link works showing the limb risers I made for my 450E.

The square tubing and angle iron were left over from other projects. I bought 4 weld tabs to mount to the ROPS and hardnose. These are really nice quality and needed very little grinding to fit perfectly to the contour of the ROPS and hardnose. I used a torch to heat and bend the angle irons to the correct shape and cut the hardnose angle of the risers on our bandsaw. I welded nuts onto some 2" square washers and welded these to the hardnose end of the risers.

The most time consuming part was the exhaust pipe. I wanted mandrel bent tubing and to accomplish this I bought a 2.5" "j-pipe" from a hot rod shop. This is the same pipe used for making custom headers and is of heavy gauge tubing. I went slowly to get the correct angles and elevations of the pipe (I had not made a custom exhaust like this before and didn't want to screw up a $35 pipe). I added a 3.5" turndown with clamps welded to the riser leaving the u-bolts free to hold the pipe for rain protection and if (when) I need to remove the hood for service. (I copied this off a set of risers on a 450D I saw.)

I spent about a day tinkering with this to get it right, and my only costs were the weld tabs, j-pipe, turndown, clamps and some primer and paint. I'm happy with how they turned out.

Hey Mike,
Thanks for sharing the pics, the risers look great. Nice job on the custom muffler!
