Transmission ?

Post by ngilles » Mon Sep 24, 2018 5:50 pm

Still getting used to my 555 track loader. With a torque converter drive system, does throttle position affect the power to the wheels? By that I mean at less than full throttle, (approx half) I was backing up doing some backdragging/leveling with the bucket, in R1 on the powershift, and it seemed to struggle to back up. The engine didn't seem to be working hard but I wasn't spinning the tracks against the ground either. I'm not sure how much "slip" there should be with the system or if I need full throttle to have full "power" to the tracks. I don't yet have a working trans pressure gauge, need to find a source for that. I'm wondering if I'm in a situation where I've got too much wear in the reverse trans parts?

Interested in the expertise of the group. Are there obvious things I can check for when I don't have a trans pressure gauge to go by?

Lots to learn, Thanks!
