JD450 Steering clutches

Post by Mariner » Thu Nov 16, 2006 5:42 pm

Hi,

I have an early 450 and am having trouble with one of the steering clutches. I have tried adjusting as per the manual instructions but do not seem to be able to make any headway. In fact it is starting to look like I will need to open both of them up to fix whatever the problem is.

How much work can be done without removing the final drives? What sort skill level is needed to do a major overhaul? I am pretty handy mechanically
and think it is worth doing both as I really wouldn't want to do it a second time. Any idea of what it would cost (ball park figure) to do both clutch and brake on each side? How long would a job like this take?

Thanks for any help or advice you could send this way.
