JD 550 Converter Seal and Winch Shaft

Post by LewM » Tue Dec 18, 2018 2:28 pm

I'm rebuilding my 550 after rod bearing began talking and rebuilt clutch packs while engine was out. Good thing I did, reverse clutches were toast and third gear clutches we're much better, 2nd had wear also. Replaced all clutches disc and about half the steel ones, all sealings rings and piston rings. Big job but fun well at least interesting.
Question 1: converter seal was not leaking but I don't want to go back in, should I change it? Cost about $200, not cheap!
Question 2: winch shaft is bent and has been rubbing against something, can it be straightened?

Thanks for the help!

Best regards, Bruce

I'm not sure of the model number of the winch but the part number for the PTO shaft is T41213. I'm pretty sure it is the winch that came on it. It' look just like the one in the parts diagrams.
Thanks,
Lew

Winch is likely a 3325 model. I don’t see why the T41213 shaft could not be straightened in a good press.

Best regards,

Bruce
