JD 350B starter vs 350C

Post by Mrfriend » Sun Dec 23, 2018 8:53 am

Okay folks, been researching a starter for my 350B. I noticed a major price difference between those specified for the 350 and 350B vs the 350C and 350D. Part numbers are different as well. Anyone know if the model for the C&D works on the B? The difference I noticed is the ones specified for the 350B are a 10MT whereas the others are a 28MT gear reduction. Someone told me the 28MT model might be longer. Everything else seems to be the same. Found one that says B-D and it is the 28MT.
Anyone know?

Good day Mrfriend,

First off, you should post things for your 350B on the late model crawlers forum, that is the forum people with these later machines follow the most. This forum is primarily for discussion of the crawler models before the 350 series.

Is your 350B gas or diesel? From you other post I am thinking it is diesel, since you mentioned changing the fuel filters. From a quick look in the on line JD parts catalogs starter # SE501428 shows up for the B, C, and D models, after you go through all the "subbed" numbers. The straight 350 doesn't show that number, but it does show the same numbers the subs started from. I can't say for certain, but it looks like it would fit a diesel of the 350 series.

Jim B, thanks, I must have hit the wrong link when I posted. Yeah Diesel. This helps, been trying to find a good web site with part numbers. Let me see what this part number turns up. Much appreciated.

The John Deere parts catalogs are available to view for free, on-line at https://partsadvisor.deere.com/. When it asks for a model enter 350. When the list of all things with 350 in the model name comes up, scroll down to 350B crawler to select the parts catalog for your B series. You can see all of the 350 series catalogs there so you can compare parts if you want. A search for JohnDeereParts Homepage will get you to the catalogs as well. Some of the parts for the "yellow" machines you can get at Ag dealers if you have the part number. Somethings you have to go to a construction equipment dealer for. Lavoy is another source to check with for parts.

Stan Disbrow has a post in the FAQ forum (about the 17th down) that lists the manual numbers that apply to the different models, that may help you pick the right manual or catalog for your machine. Lavoy may have manuals if you want or go to http://www.johndeeretechinfo.com to purchase manuals direct from JD. Used are sometimes found on eBay. I recommend OEM JD (new or used) or good quality reprints.

Jim B,

Thank you Sir, this is most helpful. Yeah, I hit the JD site but before but did not see the separate entry for the bulldozer only. I saw crawler and it was limited. I see it now be going directly to the advisor link you provided. I am going to try to pick up a good reproduction parts manual. I have only owned this 350B for about 8 months so I am still getting familiar with it. I have a tech and operators manual which has been most helpful. I really do appreciate all the help, guidance, and input. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Steve

There are some decent looking used ones (PC1169 parts catalogs) on eBay right now, one less than $40.00, along with some reproductions.
