Warrior. You are correct. I have the same two holes on the passenger side of my 3325. Those holes bolt a steel mount the holds the spool valve. Perhaps a different fuel tank is needed, as Jim has found several different numbers.

Good morning. After a couple of phone calls I think I've figured out the solution. An old school mechanic at a local John Deere dealership suggested I try raising the fuel tank to make room for the filter. I searched a bunch of images online, and found several 350c's with winches and some of the fuel tanks definitely sit higher than mine. I did manage to find one image that could zoom close enough and identified the filter placement on the left side...sitting right under the sediment cup. Hopefully someone on this site can confirm this. Either way, I'm going to tackle it today or tomorrow and see what I can come up with. I'll repost my results when I'm done. Thanks

From further study of the tanks and related lines in the parts catalogs, I believe the straight 350's and some of the B's had a flat bottom tank, as in no sump. 350B S/N 142200 and on had a sump and drain by the parts catalog.

It also appears the 3315 winch has had several housing changes. Of course no info on what the changes were. The same filter mount was used on all of them. The remote mounted spool valve appears only on the straight 350's. The mounted rotary valve appears on the B's. The housings for the straight 350's are different part numbers than the B's and C's. They do not show as the numbers subbing to the winch housing numbers used on the B's and C's; but they might.

I haven't found a good photo and I don't have a 350 to look at. You should check with Lavoy. He might have the insight on your problem or have a winch contact with the answer. You might try http://www.j-kequipment.com/, they do a lot with skidders and winches here in Maine. I haven't had occasion to deal with them but I think some posters here have used them. The fellow that owns it had many years with a JD dealer, by his web page.

When I previewed this I saw you got some info that the tank maybe able to be raised to solve the problem. That will be good if it works out. Keep us posted.

So, if I'm reading this correctly, this 3315 winch with spool valve is most likely off a straight 350 and the problem is getting it fitted to a 350C. The 350C would normally have a winch with the rotary valve. This fuel tank sump on the 350C currently will not fit the oil filter on the winch. Oh the challenges off retro-fitting old equipment.

Have you operated or seen this 3315 work? Last winter I took my 3325 done to the bare case for a rebuild.

Best regards, Bruce

Another option, use a filter assembly off a 3325 winch? Jkequipment may have some used winch parts.

Follow up:

Raising the fuel tank allowed enough clearance for the winch to be installed. Although I had to remove the drain fitting from the sump and replace it with a plug. There wasn't enough room due to the filter. I also had to extend the fuel lines so they would reach the tank. A few fittings later and we were rocking. I'll post some pictures tomorrow as soon as I can get them taken.

Now the million dollar question. Does anyone have or know where I can find a control lever for this winch? I have everything from the winch to the end of the cable. It's an obsolete item. I found 2 of them but the dealers want over $300. I'll buy one if I have to, but those prices are ridiculous. I've tried a ton of salvage yards and nothing. Any help would be greatful.

Someone said that a 450 handle was very similar to a 350 handle. Has anyone ever heard of this or tried it?

Good evening,

A quick look at the different parts catalogs shows the straight 350 and straight 450 used the same lever control group. It appears there were changes from the B series on in the lever group (both 350s and 450s). The 350s and 450s appeared to use the same levers whenever they changed. The original levers have since been superseded by kit # AT36788. I did not dig into all the parts in the kit, but it appears the cable is included along with the lever and related parts. Is what you were quoted?

As mentioned before, check with http://www.j-kequipment.com/ . They might have a used lever, or a different one you might be able to make work. They do show a couple levers on their website, but not the numbers of a 350.

If you can't find anything that will work, if you can do some fabrication, I think you could make a lever that works. We probaly could come up with some dimensions, if you don't know anyone local to you that has one you could copy. HTH.

Jim, thank you for the info. I'll do some digging and see what I can come up with. I actually called j-k equipment after you suggested it the first time. They didn't have what I was looking for. I can tell you they were super friendly and extremely courteous. That being said, I have a friend who is looking into helping me fabricate a handle. Those skills are not beyond us. I'm hoping someone might have a lever or, at the very least, provide me with some specs to make one.

I was not quoted the kit. I was quoted just the lever. Not sure where you found those numbers. I've been all over the online parts catalog and only found one crossover number. Thanks again for the info.

the 3315 would be used a the B series. According to Jim's research, there are several different cases listed for the 350's.

The parts catalogs show several different main housings/cases with some overlaps; when there were substituted numbers between the B, C, and D series. The mounting adapters are the same for all the 350 series. The large round input cover is the same for all the housings. I didn't study every part. I noticed a note that at least one of the substitutions required the brake cylinder with the housing. That would lead me to believe the changes were mainly internal and as long as anyone got a complete winch (including the 350 mounting fittings/adapters, control valve, control cable, and lever assembly), any 3315 winch will fit on a 350 of any letter series. That's what I found.

You might have to lift the fuel tank to clear the winch filter, as Warrior0677 did. Maybe someday we will find a copy of the installation instructions, if JD published such, for adding a winch in the field.

The fuel tanks on the B changes somewhere to add the sediment bowl, the C seem to have had them. If you'll notice, some of the tanks bolted sideways to the battery box/hydraulic tank, while others did not. The question I would have is if Deere deleted the sediment bowl if a machine was ordered with a winch drive? Another thing that will be in the way is the steering control valve, on a Straight or B machine, it's just a cover over the ring gear, and allows room for the spool valve.
The spool valve will not work on a 350C, unless you modify the bracket, that is why they came out with the rotary valve. We found it easier to make a new bracket to mount the spool valve on. You can't mount it on the winch, you have to put it under the seat, plenty of bolting surfaces on top of the steering clutch housings, once you do that you have to make up some new hoses from the valve to winch. If you ever wanted to remove the winch again, you'd just have 4 hoses to unhook.

Hi,

My 350C had a winch and the fuel tank has a sediment bowl. It still has the winch drive stub shaft and the trans has a reverse in it. Both signs of it having had a winch from the factory. Without a winch, it would not have had either the stub shaft nor the trans reverse according to the manuals.

Stan

Makes sense then, 350C's need a rotary valve for a 3315 winch, unless modification is done to the spool valve type it's not going to fit. I know there has been talk of the filter interfering, after a quick search, the filter seems to have changed location. If that's the case, they must have different hole locations in the winch case.

After looking at it some more, it would be possible to relocate the filter, you could plug off the old location with a pipe plug, and drill a new mount and oil return hole, it's exactly what Deere did.

On a silly note, the first 350C I ever ran was a loader, and yet had the lever for a PTO shaft! Never realized what it was till after it had gone to crawler heaven.
