I can't figure how you can get to the clutches without removing the finals.

Hi gregjo1948,

I believe he has a 450 or 450B. The steering clutches and brakes can be pulled without removing the final drive housing. Condensed version: Seat, tank, etc. removal is the same. You still have to break the track and remove the sprocket. The final drive pinion shaft has to be pulled out of the housing, then the steering clutch drive shaft can be reached and pulled through that hole. Looks like 6 of one, half a dozen of the other to me, just the actual removal of the final housing is about the only difference I saw in a quick look at both procedures. It really depends on whether or not one wants to go through the final's bearings and seals when they are right there, or maybe go back later. JMHO.

If you want a copy of a 450B TM for reference there is one at https://archive.org/details/John_Deere_Company which is free to download. There are a bunch of different John Deere manuals there.

Hi farmer040,

It will help the guys if you tell what your machine is when starting a post. I happened to recognize your name; then I had to look back to find what you had as I thought I had replied to a couple things you posted before. In your post looking to ID the master pin you asked about a 450B. When you were looking for a muffler you said it was a 450, so I am not 100% on which you have.

Also as dtoots1 mentioned, sometimes a general location of where you are located can help, such as if you're looking for something. FYI, Lavoy has posted he has parts available for at least some 450 steering clutches. He might also be able to help you with final parts if needed.
