JD450 Block 4.202 or 4.219

Post by CJ2002B » Sat Apr 27, 2019 8:16 pm

Looking for help with replacing the block on my late model straight 450. It has a 4.202 block that is cracked and can't be fixed (we tried). Does anyone know of any sources for a 4.202 block or a 4.219 engine? I'm also reading conflicting information on whether or not a 4.239 engine might work. Don't know if anyone has had any experience going that route.

I don't know where you are located and how open to travel or freight, if needed, you are. That said I saw an ad for a 450 block on the New Hampshire Craigslist yesterday you might check out. Adding a general location to your profile so people have an idea of where you are located can help at times. Good luck with your search.

Thanks for the help - I took a look at it and it might work. A little worried because it looks like the block has been opened up and is sitting out in the weather. Does anyone know if a 4.239 engine will bolt in. At this point I'm a little desperate for time because I made this mistake of taking this apart in a friends garage and now I feel guilty for the time I've tied it up. I thought it would just be a quick change on the sleeve seals but it turned out to be a crack instead. I'll update my profile (should have done that before - thanks for the tip).

Just a FYI PB&H in Antrim NH is a good place for 450 parts in the north east.. I think Lavoy should have a east coast division :)

Mark in Johnson, VT is another one to check with, if you haven't.

Thanks for the replies. I've been in contact with Mark up in VT (He's always great), but didn't know about PB&H - I'll give them a call too.

Has anyone ever been about to swap a 4239 for a 4202? Would love a turbo 4239 T, but that's probably way too much of a jump.

4239 non turbo bolts right in. Has more low end torque than a 4219 turbo.
